Horticulture Department organizes awareness camp

KATHUA, JUNE 11: Department of Horticulture toady organized a one day Awareness Camp at Mango village Kharote.

More than 50 orchardists from Kharote and its adjoining areas participated in the camp.

Chief Horticulture Officer, Chaman Lal Sharma was Chief Guest on the occasion besides District Level Subject Matter Specialist Pomology Ashwani Kumar, Horticulture Development Officer, Arvind Kumar and staff of Zone Kathua, Sarpanch Mohan Singh, Naib Sarpanch and Panchs of the Panchayat were present on the occasion.

In his address, the Chief Horticulture Officer urged the participants to come forward and avail benefits of various centrally and state sponsored developmental schemes under implementation. He stressed for adoption of Horticulture commercially on scientific lines which will not only improve the economic status of the farmers but also provide tangible benefits with vegetative covers and meet up the nutritional requirements of the family for healthy life.

Subject Matter Specialist educated the participants regarding technical aspects of fruit crops cultivation with special focus on the management practices, selection of cultivars as per the demand of the market suitability for particular Agro climatic conditions in the area.

Later, an interactive session was also organized between the experts from the department and the farmers to provide on spot solution to farmer queries with special reference to Control measures of Mango mealybug.

The farmers/Orchardists lauded the efforts of the department and requested for organization of more such programmes for the benefits of the farmers.
