Govt directs to observe cleanliness week from Sept 23 in JK hospitals

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 19: Health and Medical Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday directed officials to observe cleanliness week across hospitals—starting from 23 to 28 of this month.

In a circular issued today, the Health and Medical Education Department said that proper hygiene and maintenance of cleanliness in and around hospitals was extremely critical in preventing infections.

“Cleanliness and proper sanitation make places healthier and more agreeable for the people who work there or visit such places,” the circular reads. “Maintenance of the hygiene and cleanliness of health facilities does not only add to the aesthetic value and patient satisfaction but also reduces the incidence of infection.”

The circular further reads that it was therefore, essential that proper hygiene and sanitation is maintained in health care institutions.

The circular impressed upon all the Heads of all the health care institutions of the State that they shall observe a cleanliness week in the Health Institutions under their control, w.e.f 23.09.2019 to 28.09.2019 and conduct a cleanliness drive in and around these Institutions during this period.

“The drive shall be got conducted under their proper supervision and under the supervision of the Medical Superintendents/Chief Medical Officers/Block Medical Officers across the State,” the circular reads.

The heads of the healthcare institutions including Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua, Rajouri, Director, Health Services, Kashmir, Jammu, Director, Indian Systems of Medicine, have been directed that on completion of the cleanliness week, a comprehensive report shall be submitted to the administrative department.
