The Department of Information and Public Relations is an interface between Government, media and people at large. The responsibility of the department is to project, highlight and disseminate the activities of the Government through print and electronic media. The department has public relations, film, photo, field publicity, publication, cultural and exhibition units which undertake multifarious activities to project the policies, programmes and initiatives of the Government. The department is headed by Director General/Director at the central level and two Joints Directors at the provincial level at Jammu and Srinagar. Besides, the department has a Bureau at New Delhi which covers the meetings and events of the government. The bureau at Delhi also has to liaise with the central government offices and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The DICs, being replica of the department at the central level, highlight and project the activities at the district level and act as a bridge between people and the district administration. Similarly, the department has many Tehsil Information Centres (TICs) through which the same job is replicated at the local administrative units.
