People across all age groups join practice sessions in Jammu division

JAMMU, JUNE 21: Thousands of people across all age groups and social spectrum today joined the yoga practice sessions in Jammu division organised by district administrations, Government Departments, Educational Institutions and Social groups to mark the celebration of International Day of Yoga.

Holding True to this year’s theme of 'Yoga for Humanity', the students, men, women and prominent civil society members turn up in large numbers to be part of the global movement.

At Kathua: The District Administration Kathua organized a Mega function to celebrate 8th International Yoga Day in the morning hours of Tuesday.

Hundreds of people participated in the yoga session along with Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Pandey, SSP R C Kotwal, ADC Atul Gupta and other officers of district administration. Arrangements for live broadcast of the session on official Facebook pages of District Information Centre and ISM Ayush were also made.

The event started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the Deputy Commissioner followed by a common Yoga Protocol like Pranayam, Suksham Asana. Different Yoga Asanas postures like Dhayan, Kapal Bhati, Setuvand Asanas,Tadasana, VrikshAsana, Bhujang Asanas, Vajra Asana, Trikonasana, Vakra Asana etc. were demonstrated by Dr Bodhpaul and Dr Nitin Sharma of ISM AYUSH Kathua.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Kathua said that Yoga was a way of life and stressed on the need to practice it for a healthy mind and body.

At Udhampur: To commemorate the 8th International Yoga Day, a yoga camp was organised by District Administration Udhampur, in collaboration with District Youth Services &Sports Department, J&K Sports Council District Udhampur and Indian systems of Medicine department (ISM) Ayush here at Subhash Stadium.

Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Vinod Kumar also participated in the camp and performed Yog Asanas along with participants .

Highlighting the importance of yoga, the DC said that yoga was an invaluable gift of India to the world. It brings harmony in all walks of life and helps in disease prevention, health promotion and management of stress and anxiety besides helping to prevent many lifestyle related disorders.

Yoga session was conducted by Yoga Instructors Sunil Bhogale and Jyoti Samotra and was supervised by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Shan, District Ayush Officer.

Similar yoga camps were organised at Sub Division Chenani, Ramnagar, Dudu and Basantgarh of the District .

At Reasi: The 8th International yoga Day was celebrated by the Department of AYUSH Reasi in collaboration with District Administration, District Youths Services & Sports Officer and Patanjali Yog Sansthan at Gen. Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium with much fanfare.

Saraf Singh Nag, Chairman District Development Council Reasi was the Chief Guest, while Babila Rakhwal Deputy Commissioner was the Guest of Honour.

Students of various colleges & Schools, Prominent Citizens, Councilors of Municipal Committee, District Officers along with staff, Police personnel participated in the celebration.

District Development Council Chairman, Reasi, Saraf Singh Nag appealed to the public, especially youth, to adopt Yoga in their life to attain physical and mental health, ‘which is a prerequisite for peace and prosperity of a society.’

The DC also interacted with the participants and highlighted the innumerable benefits of performing yoga.

Sudesh Puri, Chairman Municipal Committee Reasi emphasized that the main objective of Yoga Day was to encourage students to make yoga an integral part of their daily life.

Similar events were organised at Subdivision Level, Block Level , Tehsils level , Panchayat level and at Sulla Park and Bhimgarh fort in which all walks of people participated with great enthusiasm.

At Doda: The 8th International Yoga Day was celebrated across Doda District with much fanfare. At district headquarters, the main event was held at Community Hall. More than 300 persons including DDC Doda Vikas Sharma, officers/ officials of the District administration, Army men, Students, officials from Ayush, Sports and NYK Doda participated in the Yoga Exercises/ session.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC observed that Yoga was an indigenous and scientifically proven way for maintaining balance of the mind and body and its techniques have now been reoriented to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyles, thereby helping in mitigation of diseases and promotion of health.

Dr Sanjay Rana presented the vote of thanks and said that Yoga, if practiced regularly, can eradicate mental stress that forms one of the major challenges faced by the present day world.

In Bhaderwah, the Yoga session was held at Halipad 4RR Sarna, where DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal, BDC Chairperson, DDC Councillor Bhaderwah west, Sub Judge Bhaderwah, ADC Bhaderwah, Incharge District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah, Army personnel and Public participated with enthusiasm.

In Subdivision Thathri 8th international Yoga Divas was celebrated with much fanfare at Boys High School. The SDM, DDC councilor, PRIs, CRPF, Army, School children NGOs and officers from administration participated in the session. Similar events were held in Gandoh and Assar.

At Kishtwar: Yoga day with the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity" was also celebrated across the District Kishtwar with great verve and vigour.

The main function was organised here at Chowghan Grounds by the District Administration Kishtwar in collaboration with Indian Army, Youth Services & Sports Department, AYUSH, Police and other Departments. Around 1000 enthusiastic people and yoga lovers from all walks of life including District officers, Army personnel, Police and Paramilitary Forces & Students participated and made the event a grand success. The day was celebrated in consonance with the “Common Yoga Protocol” issued by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

The event was led by renowned Mumbai based yoga instructor Jahnavi Patwardhan from ‘SARVA YOGA’ who explained the benefits of yoga for prevention of lifestyle diseases and stress management.

The event was graced by dignitaries like Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Kumar Sharma, Commander, 9 Sector RR,Brigadier Pranab Misra, CO, 17 Rashtriya Rifles, Colonel Ameya Chiplunkar Commandant 52 CRPF, Prama Shivan,ADDC Kishtwar Sham Lal,CEO KDA InderJeet Parihar,ACR Kishtwar Varunjeet Singh Charak,ACD Kishtwar Atul Dutt Sharma,CEO Kishtwar Sudershan Sharma,DYSSO Kishtwar Kharati Lal Sharma besides other district and sectoral officers and prominent citizens.

Event culminated with the presentation of Memento, Certificates and vote of thanks by Additional District Development Commissioner Commissioner Sham Lal.

At Rajouri: District Administration Rajouri celebrated the 08th International Yoga Day with the theme, 'Yoga for humanity.'

To mark the day, a grand program was organised here at Sports Stadium Kheora where Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal was the chief guest.

Addressing the event, the Deputy Commissioner extended his greetings to the participants on the occasion of international yoga day and stressed on the benefits of Yoga saying that yoga brings peace for us and is being practiced all over the world.

Similar programmes, as per the directions of Deputy Commissioner, were organised in Schools, Anagwadi centres.

At Poonch: The 8th International Day of Yoga 'was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal at sports stadium Poonch.

Deputy Commissioner, Inder Jeet led the district administration in performing Yogasana. SSP Poonch, Rohit Baskotra, district officers, Children from different sports disciplines also participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner urged the people to embrace yoga by making it part of daily routine. He asserted that Yoga helps one to boost the immune system and keep different ailments at bay.

At Ramban: The 8th International Yoga Day was celebrated as a festival across district Ramban. Government departments, Social organizations and educational institutions organised camps on the theme 'Yoga for Humanity’ ‘Whole world is one family.

Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam participated in yoga sessions held at Community Hall Ramban and Maitra which were organized by the District Administration in collaboration with Department of AYUSH and the Youth Services and Sports as per guidelines.

President, Municipal Council, Ramban, Sunita Sumbria, DDC Councilors, Rakesh Thakur, Renuka Katoch and various senior officers also participated in the Yoga sessions.

The 8th Int’l Yoga Day was also celebrated in Sub-division, Gool, Banihal and Ramsoo whereas Indian Army, CRPF, 84 BN Boom, Government Degree College, Banihal, Ramban, Ukhral, and Gool, Government Polytechnic College Ramban, Schools, Police Department besides other departments also observed the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC lauded the efforts made by the host departments for making 8th Int’l Yoga Day a grand success.

At Samba: The 8th International Day for yoga was celebrated in District Samba across the government and private institutions amid fervour and spirituality.

The main programme was organised at Pt. Prem Nath Dogra Degree College, Samba. District Development Council Chairman Keshav Dutt Sharma was the Chief Guest and Vice Chairman DDC Balwan Singh was the Guest of Honour.

The Yoga session, organized by Department of AYUSH in collaboration with District Administration Samba, was attended by more than 500 persons including Young, Old men and women.

The yoga instructor gave detailed instruction on common yoga protocol including Tadasan, vrikshasana, bhaderasan, bhujangasana, Shavasan, Nadishodan, kapalbhati, dhyana yoga, vajrasana, ustrasana besides others which were followed by each participant.

On the occasion certificates and mementos were also distributed among the outstanding performers, staff of AYUSH, students and seasoned yoga practitioners.

The 8th International Day for Yoga was also organised at Bari-Brahmana by Bharat Yog Sanstha in collaboration with Municipal Committee Bari Brahmana, at Govt. Higher secondary school, Jakh, by school education department, at Municipal Committee Vijaypur, at ICDS deptt Anganwadi centres and other institutions.

Tehsil Administration Pargwal: 8th International Yoga day was celebrated with full enthusiasm in Tehsil Pargwal of District Jammu by Tehsil Administration Pargwal at Government Higher Secondary School Pargwal. Messages regarding the importance of yoga for mental and physical health were given to people. People from all walks of life and age groups came together to celebrate the occasion.

Tehsildar Pargwal, Manjeet Singh said, "Yoga is an age-old method for staying fit both physically and mentally". The Focus of the entire event was to provide the participants with the oneness of an individual by focusing on the Yoga asanas ranging from standing poses, sitting poses and lying poses.

The people gathered in GHSS Pargwal at 7 am and practiced yoga for 1 hour.

Floriculture Department, celebrated “8th International Yoga Day” at the iconic Bagh-e-Bahu garden with the theme 'Yoga For Humanity ' under the supervision and able guidance of Director Floriculture Parks and Gardens Jammu, Jatinder Singh.

Around 100 participants performed the yoga session on this day.

Floriculture Officer Jammu Vikrant Sharma; Floriculture Officer Bagh-e-Bahu, Ishtiaq Ahmed; Accounts Officer Sunil Kumar; Assistant Floriculture Officers and Yoga instructor DushyantKesar were present on the occasion.

At the end, information was provided to the participants to register themselves with yoga classes which are being conducted at Bagh-e-Bahu garden from 6 am to 7 am free of cost for everyone.

Directorate of Agriculture Jammu celebrated the day at Baba Jitto Kissan Kendra under the aegis of Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K.K Sharma.

The programme was marked by the practice of International Yoga Protocol by the participants. The pledge for good health, peace and harmony was also administered to the participants on the occasion.

GMC Doda: The 8th International Yoga Day was celebrated at GMC Doda, main campus, Ghat.

The function was marked by a yoga session attended by medical students, faculty, paramedical students as well as the administrative staff of GMC Doda.

The principal GMC Doda Prof (Dr) Noor Ali graced the occasion and also actively participated in the yoga sessions.

The sessions were conducted by Dr Nidhi Padha, yoga expert from the department of Ayush along with Dr. Mubashir from the department of Ayush.

The proceedings were conducted by MEU coordinator Prof (Dr) Rakesh Sharma with active logistic support from the administrative staff.

DLSA Udhampur: Under the guidance of Yash Paul Bourney, Chairman DLSA Udhampur (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge) and overall Supervision of Secretary DLSA Udhampur Rajni Sharma (Sub-Judge), in collaboration with Bhartiya Yog Sansthan today observed “International Yoga Day” at District Jail Udhampur. The theme of Yoga Day for this year is “Yoga for Humanity”. The programme was attended by jail inmates, jail Superintendent and staff.

The resource persons of the programme were Yoga Experts of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, S.K Gandotra (President of Bhartiya Yog Sansthan Udhampur), Demonstrators from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Udhampur Chajju Ram Khajuria, Upkaar Singh and Som Raj Baru. The resource persons also threw light on the importance of the observance of International Yoga Day on 21st June, and asked all the participants to inculcate Yoga in their daily lives. PLVs Sham Lal, Kunal Singh and Anuj Gupta were also present on the occasion.

During the Programme Demonstrators, Chajju Ram, Upkaar Singh and Som Raj Baru exhibited the performance of various Asanas and Mudra Asana and participants learned about the several benefits of yoga and meditation. Similar programmes were held by TLSCs Majalta, Ramnagar and Chenani.

Govt Polytechnic Jammu: The NSS unit and sports Department of Government Polytechnic Jammu organized a yoga workshop from June 18, 2022 to June 20, under the supervision and guidance of Yog expert Manik Slathia (DYS Yog) a qualified expert from Ministry of AYUSH.

During the workshop special emphasis was laid on Asanas and Pranayamas which Improves the eyesight, concentration for studies and stress management especially the exam pressure. The programme culminated with celebration of 8th International day of Yoga in which students, staff members and faculty attended the Yoga session as per the protocol of AYUSH Ministry.

Principal of the college Er. Ritu Jamwal was the guiding force behind the organizing of the Yoga programme.

She advised the students to practice Yoga daily to lead a healthy life, which will keep them physically fit and mentally alert. She thanked the special guest Yoga Expert Manik Slathia for teaching and guiding the students about Yoga Asanas and Pranayamas. She also applauded the efforts of P.O. of NSS unit P.K. Angral and sports secretary, HOD Travel and Tourism, Tareq Amin for successfully organizing the Yoga programme.

DLSA Reasi: Under the aegis of NALSA and as per the activity calendar issued by the J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) for the month of June, 2022 and also under the guidance and supervision of R.N.Watal, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi, District Legal Services Authority Reasi today celebrated “International Yoga Day" in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Reasi and Department of District Sports and Youth Services at Sullah Park Reasi.

Rekha Kapoor Nischal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Reasi highlighted the importance of Yoga and made aware the participants about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of Yoga.

The Principal of GDC Reasi also spoke on the occasion. This Program was attended by faculty members, students, Panel Advocates and the PLVs of District Headquarter Reasi.

District Legal Services Authority Reasi, with the assistance of Panel Advocates and PLVs organised another program at Bhimgarh Fort Reasi for the celebration of International Yoga Day, 2022 which was attended by 60 Participants who also performed different Yoga Asanas under the supervision of the Yoga expert. In addition to these programs, TLSC Katra and Mahore also celebrated International Yoga Day at their respective Tehsils. All the PLVs of DLSA Reasi also observed this day at their respective Legal Aid clinics in District Reasi.

IIM Jammu: The International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2022-themed “Yoga for Humanity” was observed on Tuesday at IIM Jammu Canal Road Campus as a part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' . The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Sahil Mehra, Yoga Guru in the presence of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu and other faculty and staff, followed by Saraswati Vandana by the students.

The Yoga session started with the systematic practice of different “ASANAS” of standing, sitting, and lying positions under the instructions of the Yoga Instructor and supervision of trained volunteers. The instructor also mesmerized the participants with demonstration of some of the most difficult asanas.Yogic practice was followed by a Yoga Quiz wherein students, faculty members and staff participated enthusiastically.

The event was collectively coordinated by Dr. Pankaj.K. Agarwal, Associate Professor and Chairperson-Executive Education, IIM Jammu, Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Chairperson-MBA and Associate Professor, IIM Jammu, Dr. Barnali Chaudhary, Chairperson-Student Affairs and Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu and Dr. Nageshwara Reddy Kondreddy, Co-Chairperson, Student Affairs and Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu.The event ended with the recital of the national anthem.

Jammu Development Authority: Jammu Development Authority organized interactive awareness session on Yoga as part of 8th International Yoga Day-2022.

During the structured interaction, the Yoga Teachers emphasized that Yoga was not merely a physical exercise, but touches all aspects of a person, including physical, mental, financial motion, psychic, and spiritual. Mr. Magotra announced that more such programs will be done during the year of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav for the well being and welfare of JDA employees.

EPFO Jammu observed International Day of Yoga, 2022 with the theme of “Yoga for Humanity” by organizing an event in which Staff and Officers of the office participated enthusiastically. The session was organised within the Organization and Vijay, Choithani, AO, as an instructor, guided the participants to understand the basics of different Asanas.

A pledge for overall well-being of society – making oneself a healthy, peaceful, happy and loving human being, was taken by every participant. Later, Ajit Mishra, Regional P F Commissioner-II recited “Shanti Path”.

GDC Pouni, under the aegis of Azdi ka Amrit Mahotsav, ended the series of activities on International Yoga Day started on June 8, 2022 and conducted by 63 RR (Rashtriya Rifle) with Captain, Vishwajit Deshmukh, and yoga instructor, Vikshit Baliyan under the supervision of Principal, Prof. Rajni Bhagat.

The event was the harbinger of upcoming activities under the vision of International Yoga Day.

All upcoming activities, such as Poster-making competition, quiz competition, slogan writing competition, live yoga session, and short videos on the importance of yoga were conducted from time to time and culminated today on June 21, 2022.

The event ended with the Quiz competition held today where more than 100 students along with Professors participated. The students with above 80% marks were given e-certificates.

PSPS GCW Gandhinagar commemorated the 8th International Yoga Day-2022 by organising a Yoga Session under the supervision of Komal Gupta, Yoga Instructor.

The program was organized to make the students aware about the benefits of yoga and encourage them to make Yoga - an Integral part of their life. 48 NSS Volunteers, 50 cadets of 2 J&K Girls Bn.; 90 cadets of 1 J&K Girls Bn. Armed Srinagar ; 31 cadets of 1 J&K Girls Bn. Naval, Srinagar participated enthusiastically in the Programme and realised the benefits of Yoga for Health , Harmony and Tranquility.

The whole event was conducted under the guidance of Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan and Coordinated by Prof. Mala Bhasin and Dr Monika Hans , NSS PO ; Lt. Dr. Revika Arora, ANO, 1st J&K Girls bn. Srinagar; SLT. Neelima Gupta, ANO , 1st J&K Naval Srinagar; Lt. Prof. Suman Bala , ANO& Prof. Poonam C/T , 2 J & K Girls Bn NCC Jammu and Physical Instructor Roopali Slathia.

SKUAST-Jammu celebrated the Eighth International Yoga Day 2022 by holding a Yoga session in the University Sports Complex, Main Campus, Chatha.

Around 150 participants including faculty members, students, residents of university campus, hostel wardens along with hostel inmates participated in the programme.

Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J.P. Sharma in his message to the students and faculty members said yoga increases confidence level and regular practice helps to enhance self-motivation. He advised them to practice ‘Surya Namaskar’, ‘Pranayama’ and other asanas for fitness which otherwise also calms the mind by allaying one’s fears and anxiety.

The Vice Chancellor congratulated the efforts of Dean Student Welfare and Dr. Akhil Gupta, Nodal Officer DSW (FoA) for organizing International Yoga Day 2022 successfully. He also appreciated Deepika Aggarwal (Yoga Instructor) and Neeraj Gupta (Physical Instructor) for instructing different Asanas.

Prof. Rakesh Nanda, Director Education; Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension; Dr. A. K. Mondal, Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry; Dr. Anil Gupta, Medical Officer were also present during the programme.
