HP&M department organises farmers’ awareness camp at Tikri

UDHAMPUR, JUNE 24: A one day awareness camp for the Farmers’ Self help Groups (SHGs) was today organized by the Department of Horticulture planning and Marketing here at Block Tikri of District Udhampur.

Block Development Council Chairman, Tikri Nisha Sharma was the Chief Guest at the camp hosted under the supervision of Area Marketing Officer Udhampur Ashwani Kumar.

During the camp, the Chief Guest also presented weighing and Sealing Machines to the Self Help Group viz; “Krishi Naari Shakti” of Tikri Block of Udhampur for proper weighing and sealing of the processed products and ameliorating product presentation for high returns. The machines were provided to the SGH on the direction of Director Horticulture Planning & Marketing J&K, Vishesh Paul Mahajan and Deputy Director Jammu Ayaz Ahmed Natnoo.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest applauded the department for organizing the camp to benefit the Farmers. The Chairman BDC advised the entrepreneurs, farmers and Self Help Group members to work with zeal and dedication to achieve economic growth with the assistance of the department, which was eager to provide the best marketing facility to them. She also felt exhilarated over distribution of packaging machines to the SHG Tikri hoping that others will also take inspiration for such schemes making them self-sufficient.

Earlier, the Marketing Inspector highlighted the role of the department, technological interventions and initiatives put in place for the economic welfare of the farmers, Agri-preneurs and Self Help Groups dealing with processing of Fruits & Vegetables.

During the camp, several queries were also raised by the farmers and members of “Nari Shakti Group” Tikri which were replied to by the Area Marketing Officer Udhampur. He also highlighted the success stories of some business entrepreneurs. He advised for proper and attractive labelling, showing product details with FSSAI License No necessary for better presentation of the product for marketing, including on online marketing platforms like e-NAM, Amazon etc.

The Deputy Director Jammu also delineated over the advantages of value addition techniques and their adoption for high earnings.
