Horticulture Dept Anantnag holds awareness programmes

ANANTNAG, SEPTEMBER 22: Under the aegis of Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan, Horticulture wing of Agriculture Production Department Anantnag has organised several awareness programmes throughout the district.

Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Anantnag said that in compliance to the directions issued by Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, field staff of Horticulture has been spreading awareness regarding harm of drug abuse. He said that youth are being made aware that drug abuse not only affects the health of the victim but also affects their family and friends.

He said that along with awareness sessions and counseling of parents to remain vigilant, several drives for destruction of illicit cultivation of poppy/ bhung have been carried out.

He also said that in order to tackle the problem of drug abuse, examples of successful fruit growers / orchardists who are earning a sustainable livelihood by taking assistance of Govt schemes was also shared with the youth.

The CHO informed that till date awareness sessions have been held in Nathpora, Dooru, Srigufwara, Khayar, Kokernag, Bijbehara, Saller, Shangus, Qazigund and Monghall areas of the district.
