KVK B’pora organises orientation programme regarding integrated farming

Prof Makhdoomi interacts with farming trainees at KVK

BANDIPORA, MARCH 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora on Friday organised an orientation cum training programme regarding adoption and promotion of integrated farming system.

Director Extension SKUAST Kashmir, Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi was the chief guest on the occasion.

He visited Krishi Vigyaan Kendra Patushai Bandipora to review the functioning of the Kendra and interacted with staff and the trainees.

Professor Makhdoomi addressed trainees of Integrated Farming System. He said that Integrated farming systems (IFS) is an eco-friendly approach in which waste of one enterprise becomes the input of another thus making more efficient use of resources from the farm.

He said while recycling of wastes being built in the system helps to reduce dependence on external high-energy inputs thus conserving natural and scarce resources, the farming system provides a flow of money to the farmer round the year by way of disposal of eggs, edible mushroom, milk, honey, silkworm cocoons, etc. "This will help a resource-poor farmer to get out of the clutches of money lenders/agencies".

During the programme, two power point presentations were delivered by Dr. Nazir Ahmad Mir Scientist KVK Bandipora and Dr. Shahid Hassan Mir VAS Ajas on Integrated Farming System.

Programme Coordinator KVK Bandipora Dr Tariq Sultan, Incharge Head KVK Gurez Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Chief Agriculture officer Bandipora Mujtaba Yahya, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Bandipora Dr. Gh Ahmad Lone, Chief Horticulture Officer Bandipora Farooq Ahmad, District Subject Matter Specialist, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, KVK Scientists besides Field officers of Department of Agriculture participated in the training programme.
